Southern Vets vote to join mainstream cycling

SVCC will become a Cycling Australia affliated club

At a special general meeting on Monday night, Southern Vets members voted overwhelmingly to change affiliation from the Australian Veterans Cycling Council to Cycling Australia.

This has some positive implications for the many CCCC members who currently take out a Southern Vets/AVCC licence in addition to their CCCC/CA license - chiefly that for 2009 and onwards, their CCCC license will allow them to enter Southern Vets races without the need for the second license; however racing with Eastern Vets or at any other AVCC event, such as the Maryborough Championships will no longer be possible without joining Eastern or another AVCC club.

For CCCC members 35 years of age and older (30 years for women) who haven't previously raced with Southern, they will now have the option of adding some Southern Vets races to the races offered by CCCC and our South Eastern Region partners.

We hope also to see some of the guys and girls who previously only raced under the SVCC auspices joining us at any of our events.

Southern have indicated that their race program will continue unchanged.

Of course, we hope that all the CCCC riders who have in the past have also taken out a Vets license will remain full members of CCCC.

License renewals for CCCC members who currently also hold Southern Vets memberships

If you currently have a CCCC membership, or have had one in 2006 or 2007, renewing in 2009 with CCCC will obviously retain your CCCC membership but also allow you to participate in all Southern Vets races with the exception of their Club Championships.

If you wish to end your direct association with CCCC and join Southern Vets exclusively, you are required to obtain a CycleSport Victoria Transfer form from CCCC before signing up with Southern Vets for 2009. Southern Vets members (and all licensed Cycling Australia riders) will continue to be welcome at all CCCC events, but will not be eligible for prizes at Club or Regional Championships and don't qualify for member rates at CCCC races.

CCCC remains committed to our Masters aged members and believes that catering for all ages and abilities at our events is vital to ensuring our club continues to prosper.

Dual licensed riders who have any questions about this change are welcome to contact Mal Sawford at mal.sawford@carnegiecycling.com.au or on 0409 541 136 for more information.
