When Carnegie Caulfield Cycling Club launched its Elite Team in 2007 it was Australia’s first club based Elite Cycling Team.
Our Junior Team works with young riders who are self motivated and aspire to achieve results at national level, by teaching them modern training principles along with and race skills and experience while balancing home and school life. The discipline, planning and time management skills they learn along the way will be of great use in all walks of life.
In 2008 the Elite Team took on juniors for the first time, and supported 3 promising riders: Steph Hansen, Callum Fryer and Jack Cummings. These 3 riders benefited greatly from the program, with Jack and Steph graduating into the VIS program and earning selection in Australian teams which contested junior world championships. Callum has also progressed and reamins a team member. Now in as a Under 23 ranks, he has recently embarked on a season racing in Belgium. From these 3 riders we have been delighted to work with many other junior riders who have come through the ranks of our elite team and move on into state and national institute based squads.
The CCCC Elite Team will continue to provide development opportunities for up and coming male and female junior riders who wish to train and perform at a similar level to that needed for entry into institute and trade teams. We accept both Sprint and Endurance type riders into our teams.
The establishment of the CCCC Elite Team allows our senior both elite and masters riders the ability to race in teams events such as our own Philip Island Grand Prix and team based time trial events.
We believe these initiatives help support CCCC mission statement “to provide safe and enjoyable opportunities for cyclists of any age or ability to participate in competitive cycling, and to provide pathways for members to reach their full potential whether it be enthusiast or world champion.” At the elite end of the spectrum, CCCC riders regularly achieve success representing Australia at the Commonwealth, Olympic and Paralympics Games, and at Junior, Senior and Masters World Cycling Championships.
The Elite Team has a separate management structure to CCCC, but reports directly into the CCCC President, Malcolm Sawford and the CCCC Committee. The Team is managed by Paul Mason, with assistance from CCCC Secretary Mick Cummings. Hilton Clarke is our Head Coach and works hands on with all team members.
