Our Training Sessions

Through its long and proud track heritage CCCC has learnt the unparalleled opportunities to develop sprint and bike handling skills that track training provides for road riders as well as track specialists.

Our highly regarded “track based” JDP is held on our club velodrome at Packer Park in the summer months and inside the club rooms during the darker winter months. These enjoyable sessions take place on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at Packer Park and every second Monday each month the young riders go to DISC for indoor track skills and fitness training. These sessions are run by two of our qualified coaches Rob Koroknai and Sonia Throssell, ably assisted by Penny Robinson and other club members and parent helpers. The program is run all year round and focuses on giving young riders of varied cycling abilities the opportunity to learn about bicycle training, racing, technique and teamwork.

CCCC has a number of junior-sized track bikes available for use at the sessions to help those who are new to the sport get started. These are used on a shared-basis and provided with the expectation that once the rider’s interest in the sport has been established, they will purchase their own bike to allow us to provide loan bikes to other novices just starting in the sport.

When: The programme conducts two sessions each week on Wednesday and Thursday evenings during school terms.

Where: In summer (daylight saving), training is outdoors on our velodrome at Packer Park, Leila Road, (track bikes must be used).

In winter, sessions are conducted on windtrainers in our rooms at that venue (track or road bikes may be used). There is also an optional session each month where we train at the international-standard indoor velodrome at DISC, Darebin.

The High Performance Squad program for riders who are beyond the training levels conducted at Packer Park is based at DISC at Darebin and also complimented by sessions at Packer Park. These are run by CCCC Head Coach, Hilton Clarke (Level 2 coach), with assistance from Graham Fryer (CCCC Coaching Co-ordinator, Level 1 Coach) and Mick Cummings (Level 1 coach)
