The final Saturday afternoon track race meet before Christmas was a bit low on numbers, because some kids had already broken up for the year, so several families were already on holidays. This race report is extremely late being posted, because immediately after the completion of Saturday racing, I had to rush to DISC …

Saturday (11th Feb) saw the return of the Saturday afternoon track racing after the Christmas-January (school holidays) break. Rob Koroknai was the first other helper to arrive, and found a novel way to transport the registration tent down to the velodrome … strapped to the postie bike! There were 34 riders in all – …

After a brief scare brought on by a light shower 30 minutes before racing was due to get underway, it was all systems go by the usual 6.30pm start time at Sandown tonight. With a light breeze blowing from the south, conditions proved a little too benign for the hardmen to really take advantage, …

A fairly still morning allowed for high speed races across the board this morning, with the A and B Grade races particularly rapid. B Grade averaged close to 45kmh which is their fastest verified average speed on the circuit. Higher reported averages were commonplace a few years ago, but the prevalence of GPS speedos …

Great conditions at Sandown tonight. All riders were relieved to get a status report on Steve North, who fell heavily at last week’s race. Racing was abandoned to allow paramedics to treat Steve’s serious neck injury; fortunately the news is that he is expected to make a full recovery but will be on the …

A hot morning with a strong and gusting northerly wind made for one of the toughest days ever at Glenvale Crescent. All races saw many forced early retirements as rider after rider was left exposed to battle the winds alone. A big congratulations to Alex Smyth (Plan B Racing) who finally broke through for …

Melbourne’s fickle weather brought almost wintery conditions to Sandown tonight, with a very cold and very strong southerly wind making things tough for riders. The only successful break came in A Grade, with an early move containing proper hard men like David Sturt (Cycling-Inform), Justin Davis (O’Mara Cycles), Vaughan Bowman, Tom Leaper and Brent …

Perhaps summer is finally here to stay! Riders were treated to another hot and sunny morning at Glenvale Crescent this morning, albeit with a stronger breeze than last weekend which made all races just that little bit tougher. Early aggression paid off in A Grade, with the winning break going very early. Not long …

Another great summer’s night at Sandown, with blue skies and temperature still above 30 degrees when racing wrapped up saw big fields and great racing across the board. Congratulations to Luke Parker (Jayco VIS) for his first big road win with a great sprint to lead home the survivors of the usual A Grade …
