As I was leaving Carl Brewer was arriving for late afternoon coaching. It is good to see the track getting good utilisation. Did fill out a survey on track riding, racing and participation last week and hopefully many others will do likewise.
Enjoy your cycling and safe riding.

( 0 / 0 )Since I was a kid in cycling parents have contributed to the sport in many official ways. Talking to a dad last week he told me he has become a commissaire which allows him to help out at races.
I don't know how tasks are allocated at races but the only concern I would have is conflict of interest. In my young days the fathers of some of the guy's we raced were officials but not generally a referee. If I had a son or daughter racing today I would not like the parent of another young person, that was racing my kids, being commissaire.
Am not talking club races as things don't happen without parents but more open races. I would like to think that persons acting as commissaire in open races are not aligned to any of the kids, in particular, if they have authority to rub anyone out or impact on race results.
Maybe numbers these days don't permit this but a parent as commissaire would need to be very careful so as not to impact another kid in favour of their own.
Don't get me wrong as I think it great that parents are prepared to take on official roles or our sport would struggle. Having said this I do think how tasks are allocated would be very important as conflict of interest would be possible.
Maybe I am wrong.

( 0 / 0 )Today I watched the coverage of the 9 stage Tour of Switzerland. Seeing that fall in which Cavendish knocked Haussler off his bike and caused other to fall as well was bad business.
To be honest Cavendish got off very light and should have been given a holiday for his poor riding. For the bloke from his team to make comments like others targeted Mark, is pure bull dust. Looking at that sprint straight on he knew he would not get over Haussler and attempted to block but as he did not have good control of his bike, they went down.
I like Mark's sprinting and hope he does well in the Tour de France but to be honest if he pull's that stunt again then he should be kicked out of the race himself. Racing is tough and sprinting is tough at their level but other riders don't deserve to be put out of a race through his cowboy riding.
My view.

( 0 / 0 )Not much cycling last week, in fact none as we had Jelena our granddaughter over for the week. Had a great week and only a couple of days work due to the rain and cold conditions. Friday I went to Box Hill Hospital for Leukemia 3 monthly check up and my condition has got a little worse but not at a stage requiring treatment. In myself I feel fine but another hospital visit in October for another check up. Sometimes the white blood cell count can vary a bit so hoping this is the case.
Yesterday I rode from home to Cafe Racer and then returned home getting wet with a round trip of 70 k's up and down plenty of hills along the way. Saw Leigh's great photography work whilst there it's fantastic. Leaving in an hour for a ride up the hills which looking forward to plus no getting wet will be good.
One thing the doctor told me on Friday is that my immune system only functions at 50% of normal so won't be sitting around any coffee shops in wet clothes. I think as long as I am smart then should keep colds away by common sense.
Spoke to Shane Miller last night and he has recovered well and looking forward to mixing it with you road TT blokes again soon, so don't think he will be an easy beat, ha ha.
Hope everyone is well and it looks like Cancellara has really good motors in those powerful legs. The more I think of that silly bloke who likened Cancellara's acceleration to a motorised gadget the more stupid I think he is, was. By the way at 39 years of age I wonder what doubters are gonna reckon Armstrong is on now or maybe some will concede he is just so good.
Have a good day and safe riding.

( 0 / 0 )My number 2 road bike is all ready for a hit out but won't be till Saturday as we have granddaughter until Friday which has been really great. Bike now got 39 x 26 lowest gear which just helps me a bit up in the hills.
Reckon by summer can get reasonable fit without overdoing it. Lower back is a problem and legs below the knees if I bend down but that does not stop me on the bike.
Asked by Grant last week when I will be at DISC again. For me that is a long way off yet as road fitness needs to come first. One step at a time but will be back at DISC in due course and will look forward to it.
As previously stated the Vics next March will be my first big hit out on track then Nationals if things go okay.
At my age it really is not an issue of urgency but just riding my bike is really great.
Saturday if fine will go dopwn to StKilda for coffee and then out over the hills and looking forward to that ride very much.
safe riding.
