CALVIN'S OPPORTUNITY
Speaking to Calvin Watson last night I asked him what his plans were for 2010. Calvin is riding the Tour of Mersey Valley next, which is a selection race for the Under 19 World Titles. Following this Calvin has two other selection races, won being the National Road Title plus a another selection race.

I only got to see Calvin in one Bay Series race but for a 17 year old in a top class field, he feared no one and he's a class young rider.

All the best in your quest to make the Worlds Calvin and whether you do or not you have a great future ahead of you.

All the best.

SPEAKING TO HILTON
Hilton phoned me today to see how Iám going, which was good of him after such a busy week with the Junior Nationals. He was very pleased with the performances of the riders he coaches but also is very impressed overall with the high standard of all the young riders.

Hilton's thrust these days is mainly coaching young riders and for mine he has no peer and his ongoing results are testament to the high standard of his training.

At some stage an ill-informed person said Hilton's trains his riders too hard. Well, however said that has no clue at all of his training methods and suspect more based on sour grapes than anything. In actual fact I personally have witness riders who Hilton trained not want to comply to his wishes for them to rest. They wanted to race on days he had specifically told them to use as recovery or day off. (I will be doing an article on Hilton in coming weeks, given have known him since I was about 16 years old)

Whether a rider is trained by Hilton or anyone else, it is important to do as the coach directs, or why bother having a coach. Just do your own thing.

Anyway as for me Iám going okay, but a bit disappointed did not get to the Junior Nationals, can't be helped. This week pool work, physio and doctor report Thursday afternoon. Feeling good week 7 next Wednesday. Time moving on.

Cheers and have a safe week.

SIMON CLARKE - MILAN SAN REMO
Reading Simon's facebook this morning he had two bike changes, a crash another bike change. Chased to make contact with the leading 40 riders at 15 k's to go. Got dropped on the Poggio in the last 1 k with 6 k's to finish downhill. Came in 32nd at 1 minute 35 seconds.

What a fantastic ride by Simon, which only further demonstrates his class, and over very long distances racing the very best. Whilst Simon does not say so, he was the first ISD-Neri rider to finish.

Great performance Simon, it will not go un-noticed.

A VERY INTERESTING, A FUNNY ACCOUNT
I have just been reading on cyclingnews.com a recount of the 1985 Milan San Remo. That year the Americian 7-11 Team raced in Europe for the first time. Davis Phinney and Ron Kiefel give a very good account of the race. It's very funny and very interesting and gives a good insight of how things were even only 25 years ago.

Cheers and safe riding.
