HOSPITAL VISIT
After blood test on Tuesday I returned to Box Hill Hospital today to Occology for going over and outcome. The man I saw was a very nice Doctor and he gave me a real good examination looking for lumps etc.

During my week in Hospital they took many blood samples and said my white cell count was up but no conclusion reached. From the samples this week they did extensive tests and tell me I have Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.

Now before youve got me berried I am told it is very mild and could take years to develop into anything, perhaps 20 to 30 years and is treatable anyway. It is the milder of two strains with the same name.
So at 84 or 94, if I bat that long, am sure other things will slow me up by then anyway.

Outcome is Ivé gotta have flue and puenmonia injections before winter and back to hospital in July for another check up.

At least this weekends weather looks a lot better for you all. If Iám a good boy I get to go and watch the Masters pursuits and scratch races on Sunday. My big outing.

Ride safely.

PS I don't write this for sympathy but merely to point out the importances of regular health check ups in particular for older people.

SIMON CLARKE DOING REAL WELL
You CCCC members plus a lot of admirers probably have been following Simon's performances over time. We have seen how consistent he is and has been when opportunity comes his way. You would have seen cyclingnews.com yesterday where he came in 9th in stage one of the Tirreno-Adriatico. There was a host of big name riders behind Simon.
Today he came in 39th and is now 22nd on GC at 10 seconds, a fantastic result.

So many people have commented on Simon's riding ability and his consistent results. His assistance as a domestique in the World Road title to Cadel was evident of that. The fact the ACF selected Simon was evidence as to how highly he is regarded.

I sent Simon a message on facebook last night and he responded with thanks and saying that his good riding should assure him of a ride in the Giro.

Having seen Simon come up from a young rider in the club even in the time I have been back involved is great. To you young riders Simon should be inspiration to you if you have designs on becoming a top European Pro.

Simon is just so good yet his path has not been easy.

JUST SOME INSIGHT
So I can bore you all about my current status here is an update.

Today went to Physio Gary Cairnduff at Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre. He is happy with my progress and given me some more drills to do which will get me moving a bit, but no weight bearing. Will start pool in the next few days which will be a new phase.

There is no quick fix with this broken pelvis. the initial mend to strength will be 12 weeks but with work along the way. Gary has told me full recovery will be 6 to 9 months.

My legs are wasted away and soon I will be Little Steggles or Steggles No 2. Today I was looking at pictures of me track racing in 2006 yet looking at my legs now they are gone. They are like broomsticks in particular my quads.

Anyway enough of that by next summer it will all be built back up again, so something for me to focus on all winter. Tomorrow visit Box Hill Hospital to hopefully find out what my white blood cell problem is. Iám not concerned cos I feel bloody good.

Anyway hope you are well and ride safely.

SAD PASSING
Sad to read about the passing of Lionel Cox. I met Lionel at Alice Springs in 2002 being the Masters Track Titles. Lionel came and spoke to me because I was riding my crome Cinelli track bike from the early 60's. His first comment to me was "I haven't seen one of those for 40 years".

Each time I raced in Sydney after that, at Nationals and Worlds he would always say hello and we would chat a bit. Lionel was before my time and don't recall him racing at North Essendon. Lionel did a lot of coaching of young riders in recent years. He was a legend of the 1952 Olympics but a real great man just to know.

He will be sadely missed from the Sydney cycling scene.

WATCHING ME WEIGHT
Sitting around home it is easy to eat more than I should. Beth and our daughters are seeing I eat good food and plenty of variation. Kerrie has been bringing me up nice things and her homemade jam is great. I am doing real well.

Last week got on the scales and was 70kgs when 12 months ago was 65 to 66kgs. Now Hilton wanted me to put on weight going back to track TT and Sprinting but not get a big guts. Anyway I cut back a bit from last week and are now back to 68 kgs. Seeing I am not very big it does give me an understanding how big people put on weight so easily.

Not eating quite as msany goodies seeing Iám sitting around all day.

Have a good day and to those racing with Southern or at DISC with Northcote, enjoy your racing. Also the youngsters at Packer Park. The night's are closing in now.

Cheers.
