If you pull up on Google 1959 Tour de France you will see some great footage but like me you probably won't understand the language. Col commented on the climbing styles but remember in 1959 they had 10 speed gears probably front combination 47/50 and 5 speed cluster 13, 51, 17, 19, 21. Perhaps something different but the range then was very limited as even Campag back then did not take up great slack in the chain.
