      • KNOW YOUR LIMITS
        09/09/10
The crit season is only a few weeks away and for most cyclists is their main racing enjoyment, whether young or older riders.

If you are an older rider into your 60's then just be mindful of your age. Everyone likes to do their best, well most anyway and we all have some ego to do w

      • NOT RETIRED BUT!!!!
        09/09/10
Two days ago I called in to see my good friend Col 'the painter' Rourke. Col said he was going to tell everyone I have retired. Well, I have not, but, bikes are taking a big second place for me at present due to family matters. Most of my weekends at present are taken up fully with my gran

      • OUT OF CHARACTER
        09/09/10
I read cyclingnews.com that Riis had sent O'Grady and Andy Schleck home from the Tour of Spain for being out drinking until 5.00am. When I read this article it did not sound right to me, for whilst I don't know Stuart he has always come across as a very professional sports person.
      • TOUR OF GIPPSLAND
        09/09/10
Given it is the anniversary of the tragic death of Russell Mockeridge, Mal sent me this copy of the starters in the 1958 Tour Of Gippsland. My understanding is the race commenced on North Rd, turned left into Clayton Rd and was turning right onto Dandenong Rd when a bus struck the scratch group.
      • WELL DONE SIMON
        09/08/10
I can only concur with Mal about Simon's 2011 contract to ride with Astana. A number of people in the 'know' think Simon was unlucky to miss selection for the worlds this year. Simon has a proven ability of being very capable of racing very long road events and last years worlds is on

      • GOOD NEWS DAVID TANNER
        09/07/10
Reading through a Riis arcticle on cycling news.com I see David Tanner has a new 2 year contract with the Saxo Bank -SunGard team for 2011. That's great news for a very good young rider and good on Bjarne Riis for identifying his potential. He gave Richie Porte a go and look what he has achieve

      • VIC SCHOOLBOYS 1961
        09/07/10
Young Goldie after winning his Eastern Zone Final at Burnley Boulevard in 1961 at 15 years of age. I still have the sash in mint condition but don't know who will want it when I go to that bike track in the sky!!!!!! The second shot was taken after the grand final at Albert Park plus the progra

      • READING HIS TRIBUTE
        09/05/10
Just been reading the tribute by David Millar for Mr Txema Gonzalez on cyclingnews.com. It is a fine tribute to a man of very good character. He will be sadly missed by his family those who worked with him or those who knew him in cycling.

      • HIPOCRISY IN AUSTRALIA
        09/05/10
Hypocrisy and double standards in Australian Sport is something that will need to be sorted so every young Australian sports person is treated equally. Recently there has been a lot of press about footballers and there treatment for substance abuse.

Today I read in a daily paper about a b

      • SID PATTERSON
        09/04/10
As a young boy I had seen Sid Patterson race at North Essendon board track. As a young amateur racing I was fortunate enough to see Patto race at Olympic Park board track. In my lifetime Sid Patterson has been the major draw card in track cycling. Patto was contracted to Bill Long for many years and

      • DO YOU KNOW THIS BLOKE
        09/03/10
Many of you know Bob Farley, well this is Bob at about 18 years of age.

      • MELBOURNE TO YEA
        09/03/10
I remember this day was very hot and quite a lot of the course was dirt road. Am pretty sure Don Simpson of Blackburn was the winner and I think Tom Moloney might have been second or fastest time but not sure of that. Me, I punctured and pulled out but got to see the finish in Yea. No juniors allowe

      • TOM HAMILTON U17 TT CHAMP
        09/03/10
Just reading Scott McGrory's facebook message which tells us that Tom Hamilton won the Australian U17 Road TT Championship. I don't know how our club members went but sure parents will put up something in due course.

I did write not long ago that Hilton commented to me that Tom

      • HOW CYCLING HAS MOVED ON
        09/02/10
When I think back to when we raced as young people and the make up of cycling back then and compare it to today, the sport has made great progress.

Today there are so many people fully employed in cycling, relating to Australia I mean. Administration in cycling, coaches, people connected

      • WINTER IS OVER
        09/01/10
This afternoon I called into see Col the painter. He reckoned he was gonna get his bike out and go up the hills. Coming home on Maroondah Hwy. down into Ringwood at about 4.30 I could not see the Dandenongs at all. Raqng Col and told him to stay home ha ha.

      • JUST AS IT COMES
        09/01/10
Over time I will put up old stuff on my blog, it will not be in any sequence but just as it comes. This morning a bloke asked me about the mark a certain rider had in the latest handicap list I have posted. The fact is these are just a window in time, some riders were young, some were older. Riders
