Carnegie Juniors have just made their annual pilgrimage to Wangaratta for the 2010 Victorian Junior State Road Championships where they contested the individual time trial and road race championships.

Carnegie was represented by 38 riders from J11 to U19 age categories, - the largest club contingent.

In the J11Girls, Alanna Field and Georgia Cummings did their customary quinella, streeting the field to win Gold and Silver respectively in both the time trial and the road race.

Emily Dunk, competing in her first season of racing, took home a silver medal in the time trial and finished with the sprinting bunch in the road race having been put off by a rider passing on the inside of her on the final corner. Grace Povey also rode well contesting her first championships at the end of her first season of competitive Open racing

Tom Benton became State Champion in the J13Boys time trial, with Liam Pino, Ryan Koroknai, and Tom Lucas all achieving top-10 results. Tom Benton, Liam and Ryan all backed up for the road race and were also in the top ten finishers, with newcomer Trey Freeman also impressing with a solid TT and 11th in the road race.

In the U15Women, Courtney Field (NTID, coached by Hilton Clarke) made it a family affair by winning the Road Race championship and taking home a silver medal in the Time Trial. Nina Greig-Towers was just outside the medals with a 4th in the TT and 5th in the Road Race.

After a nervous discussion with commissaries at the post-race rollout check, Tom Preston was confirmed as the winner of the  Silver medal in the U15Men Road Race (sometimes it pays not to be too close to the gearing restrictions....), and just missed a medal in the TT with a fine 4th place. Drew Morey also rode well to finish 8th in the Road Race and a posted a very good TT time. CCCC was very well represented in this division by the green and gold flash, Thomas Verlys-Donk, club stalwarts David Koroknai, Jayden Cooper, and Lex Munoz , and novice racers Lucas Hitchcock, Ben Andrews, and Dylan Thompson. Many of these riders are first-years in the age group and some are at the start of their cycling careers - we are looking forward to their continued improvement over the coming year and watching their results next year.

In the U17W, Ruby Greig-Hurtig (NTID, coached by Hilton Clarke) showed off her sprinting legs with a Bronze medal in the Road Race. Grace Fryer missed the break up the mountain but rode strongly to pass other riders and improve her position on the road in the closing kilometres.

We had a massive contingent in the U17Mens category with 12 riders and it was a show of force for the Carnegie team. In the Road Race, Jack Cummings came in third for his second Bronze medal after the TT the previous day, to be followed by Evan Hull, Zane Hunter, Munro Boydell, and Clement Boydell, giving Carnegie 3rd to 7th spots. If you add Michael Hale, Kyle Thompson and Jake Klajnblat, to that list, CCCC riders filled 8 of the top 15 spots in the Road Race, and with Bryce Morey's 9th place in the TT, 9 of the top 15 spots in that discipline. It is no wonder our three U17M teams at the recent Club Teams TT filled the podium.  Zander Hitchcock, Zac Quinn and Camden Bush continued their very good time trialling this season, and fought hard in the road race.

The final category in which Carnegie was represented was U19Men (our usual high flyer in U19Women, Steph Hansen is overseas with the Australian team preparing for the World Championships, along with Club mate, Calvin Watson who is with the men's U19 Australian team). Stefan Imberger and Trent Morey both recorded top-10 times in the TT. In the gruelling 100km road race, which included four passes over the mountain, all four CCCC riders, Matt Fortunato, Trent, Bradley Wills, Alexander Woff, finished (an achievement in itself), with Matt achieving the best finish with 6th place.

In summary, 38 riders in 10 divisions, 12 medals, including 4 Gold, 5 Silver, and 3 bronze. Carnegie's new State Champions are Alanna Field (double State Champion, J11G Road Race and TT), Tom Benton (U13B TT), and Courtney Field (U15W Road Race).

Congratulations to all riders who competed and who represented the Club with distinction.
