Congratulations to Anthony Wallace of CCCC for winning the 70K Masters handicap in the Preston Mountain Classic yesterday. Anthony rode from the 12 minute mark and won by 4 sec from Chris Miller Geelong CC also of 12 mins. In 3rd place was Alexander Davey of CCCC off 15 mins at 23 sec. Two other CCCC members finished in the top 10 being Joshua Dux off 12 mins at 51 sec and Edward Smith off 15 mins at 1 min 25 sec. Off 8 mins Michael Hay 12th at 1 min 36 sec and Gerrard Donnelly 14th also off 8 mins at 1 min 47 sec and split by Sam Gifford of StKilda also off 8 mins at 1 min 45 sec. Whilst I do not know any of the detail in winning Anthony holding off these very strong 8 min riders achieved an excellent result. Carnegie Club had 16 riders out of a finishing number of 88, which was a strong performance.
A CV photo taken from their website of Anthony’s finish.
In the Elite Womens 70K race Josie Simpson of St Kilda CC off 8 mins was the winner from first year roadie Laine Hammond also off 8 mins 2nd (same time) and 3rd Katherine Lee of St Kilda also off 8 mins at 38 sec. Sarah Riley from CCCC was 8th riding off scr came in at 2 mins 31 sec. In the finishing 14 riders StKilda CC had 8 Ladies finish all in very good times which is a real credit to them. Congratulations to place getters and to Laine for taking on a tough course considering her background is as one of the States best track riders.
The Elite Mens 135k race Alex Morgan Blackburn CC off scratch was winner from Robbie Hucker of Bendigo at 1 sec with Blake Hose Geelong CC also off scratch 3rd at 5 sec. To his credit Vaughan Bowman from CCCC also off scratch was 10th at 28 sec which was a fine ride for this inform class who is not a 60kg weight range for these type of hills.
I was not there so can’t say much only that I know the area the race was held, it was not flat in my day and sure it was not flat yesterday. If you have any other information then please include it and all results and photoes are on CV Website. Cheers All.
