Record teams entries for Phillip Island Grand Prix

Written by Mal Sawford

The third staging of the Phillip Island Cycling Grand Prix will see a record 49 teams (194 riders!) take to the track on Saturday morning at 10.30.

22 of the teams have been classified as A Grade teams in the mass start race by the CSV handicapper, with the top ranked Pratties squad to carry numbers 1-5. CCCC has 4 teams entered, with other CCCC members riding in most of the other teams.

Given the fantastic number of entries, a limited number of additional places are available for team managers to act as neutral spares during the race. Interested managers should contact Mal Sawford on msawford@henley.com.au as soon as possible.

New to the Grand Prix for 2009 are the Junior (Under 15 & 17) 1 hour kermesse, and the Women's 1 hour kermesse, which have both been well supported with 23 and 28 entries respectively. CCCC's Jack Cummings and Peta Mullens have been awarded the number 1 bibs in their respective races.

Entries for the afternoon session's graded club races will be taken on the day at the venue. With such great numbers, our advice is that you plan to arrive early! Riders from the open events are most welcome to saddle up again and participate in the club racing.
